Prestige Golf Gets Nike Golf Distribution

🕔06.Jul 2015

From humble beginnings to prestigious platform for big golf brands.

prestige1When the brand Srixon broke into the golf scene around 1996, a small golf distributor in Malaysia got their own big break in landing the contract to market it to local golf pro-shops. The mutually successful partnership lasted 17 years but the then small distributor, Prestige Golf went on to become a major player in the golf distribution market locally and internationally. Prestige Golf is very much present in other Southeast Asian territories such as Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam with long contract periods for the brands. Along the way, they accumulated many other big brands such as Crest Link, Nippon Shaft, Vega, Radius, Loudmouth and the recent acquisition of Nike Golf covering the Malaysian region.

“We just concluded with Nike to do distribution of Nike Golf in Malaysia effective April 2015. A lot of people wondered how we managed to land a big name like Nike and I find its something beyond explanation but I believe with faith, honesty and hard work, anything is possible,” said Managing Director Mr K. Vasudevan of their latest acquisition. He added, “We also have a very large list of single storeowners that we support and strive to give them the best service we can. Those guys definitely helped in supporting us to show Nike that we are a reliable channel for them. Under Nike Golf, we carry clubs, bags, balls, gloves, caps and other accessories.”

Coming from a humble background as a store assistant with GS Gill in the 80s, Mr. Vasu’s resume in the industry goes back 33 years, of which 18 is as the MD of Prestige Golf. “My entire training of running a proper company came from there where I was given the liberty and opportunity to learn as much as possible though I didn’t think I would use it to start my own company. Later, I joined a public listed company called MULPHA International also in the golf division and helped them to develop a licensee brand called Custom Craft from the US. Again, I was lucky to have been given the opportunity to develop Custom Craft and to distribute it, and it gained me a lot of valuable experience,” he said.

It was during a brainstorming session with a good friend from Metro Golf, Albert Lim that Prestige Golf came about in terms of name, brand and logo. One of the longest brands they have been distributing, which has become an international name is Crest Link. Mr. Vasu explained that he and the Crest Link’s owner Mr. Raymond Yee started at the same time as salesmen in the industry and through a mutual friend Mr. Chang Siew Fah they went into a partnership to distribute the brand in Malaysia inclusive of Sabah and Sarawak.

Prestige has being given the licensee to distribute and promote Crest Link’s accessories such as gloves, caps, tees and towels among others since 2014. It has been a beautiful partnership according to Mr. Vasu as Crest Link is now a world-class brand with world-class ambassadors. The Spanish Open in the month of May had the privilege to see Crest Link’s brand accessories being displayed in Spain by a local distributor with an active marketing push from Prestige.

Another brand that Prestige Golf is seriously promoting are the Vega golf clubs, which they have been distributing since August 2014. Promotional activities for it include the upcoming byinvitation- only event for Vega owners’ tournament event at the Templer Park Golf & Country Resort on the 2nd of June. The event is co-sponsored by another dealer Golfers Dock Dot Com, who is involved with custom fitting. Director of Professional Golf Europe Mr. Graham Webb will be the guest of honor to crown this special event where talks and training will be given.
